Marvinator 2010 Competition Description
Students and teachers are invited to enter the 2010 Microsoft Marvinator competition and be in to win loads of great prizes!
Entries are invited from groups or classes of students who, along with their teacher, develop and submit a MARVIN presentation which meets one of these criteria and responds to the brief which follows. There is also an individual student competition to solve the riddle
The competition has three different categories or streams
- Primary (years 1-6);
- Intermediate/Secondary (years 7-10);
- Individual students who submit a MARVIN clip to solve the riddle;
Your MARVIN presentation must respond to one or more of these criteria:
- Use MARVIN to creatively and originally present content used within a learning activity or unit linked to the New Zealand curriculum;
- Use MARVIN creatively and originally to present outcomes from a learning activity or unit linked to the New Zealand curriculum;
- Use MARVIN creatively and originally to instruct or demonstrate to others, how to do or use something (eg: a sporting skill, playing a game, using a piece of equipment, looking after a pet etc);
- Use MARVIN creatively and originally to communicate an important message about, or advertise a class or school event, to raise awareness of the event (eg: a fair, a sports day, a fundraiser etc);
- Use MARVIN creatively and originally to entertain and/or educate another group of students in the school (eg: an animated story or play for junior students, funny animated advertisements for products or services);
Supporting material:
Each student group, class or school entry must be accompanied by a statement of approximately one A4 page, detailing:
- Which of the above criteria the entry complies with (may be more than one);
- How the use of MARVIN was integrated into the class teaching and learning programme (eg: a basic plan outline or statement);
- What impact or effect the use of MARVIN had on student engagement, work or outcomes;
- Any feedback or other ideas that you consider would be of value to MARVIN developers to improve MARVIN and/or its use for educational purposes.
Regardless of whether your class is submitting an entry to the main competition (the teacher/class competition), individual students are invited to solve the riddle and upload their own clips to the riddle tab, and win a prize for the best clip in this category. When uploading your clip, you will find an upload drop box to for either the riddle or the teacher/class competition
Timeline
The deadline for submissions is 5pm on 28th May 2010. Winners will be announced by 23rd June 2010
Draws
There will be weekly draws for spot prizes - MP3 players. All you need to do to qualify for a spot prize is to submit your animation (class or individual) to the Marvinator website by 5pm every Friday afternoon. Winners will be announced every Monday on the "Judging and Prizes" tab of the website [place URL here]. The earlier you get your clips submitted, the better the chance of winning, as the longer you wait, the more people will be submitting!
The prizes to be won are:
- Weekly Spot prizes – MP3 players;
- Digital Cameras;
- Wireless Microsoft Keyboard and mouse set;
- Binoculars;
